Yard Bugs

I get a lot of questions about bug identifications so I have started a page showing bugs and non-bugs found in the Owensboro area.  Pictures are of found bugs.

First, what is a bug?  A bug is a common name for an insect.  Bug is not a classification, while insect is.  The most common definition of an insect is an invertebrate (no backbone) with a three part body, six legs and two wings.  An insect belongs to the phylum arthropod. Not all arthropods are insects. Arthropods include insects, spiders, crustaceans, scorpions, and centipedes.

This is a dung beetle.  It was found on my driveway.  It is about 2 cm long.  The front legs and rounded head helped narrow down the identification.
